Honey Packets, a sexual enhancement supplement, are becoming popular among young male college students, according to a 2024 article from Forbes, but the new sex fad could have serious health consequences for those looking to sustain longer lasting results in the bedroom.
According to Forbes writer, Bruce Y. Lee, honey packets have been gaining popularity as a dietary supplement marketed to men. These packs typically combine honey, herbs, and vitamins, promising benefits such as increased libido, energy, and stamina, according to Hims. However, some of these products contain unregulated ingredients that could pose health risks to young men.

In 2017, the FDA issued a warning against popular honey packet brands like Royal Honey VIP and MKS Enterprise LLC. Both were found to contain tadalafil, the active ingredient in Cialis, a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. While Cialis is FDA-approved and considered safe, the inclusion of tadalafil in these honey products raised concerns. The problem is that the amount of tadalafil in these products is unregulated and often undeclared, creating uncertainty about how much is actually in each dose.
Tadalafil can interact dangerously with nitrates, commonly found in prescription medications like nitroglycerin, which are often used by men with conditions like high blood pressure or heart disease. When combined, the two substances can cause a drastic and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure. Lee highlighted that frequent misuse of ED medications can also lead to side effects such as hearing problems, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and allergic reactions, and may cause complications when combined with antibiotics or alcohol.
Even worse, overindulging in honey-based sex supplements can lead to priapism, a medical condition where an erection lasts for an unusually long time, causing damage to the penis.
“Before you take any honey-based products, you should check your package—meaning the box, container, or whatever the product may have come in—to better understand the ingredients and claims being made and to make sure that the product wasn’t one of that had received warning letters from the FDA,” Lee advised. “You don’t want to be taking ED medications inadvertently, especially if you don’t have ED.”
ED is rising among young men. A 2004 study reported that 8% of men in their 20s and 11% of men in their 30s experienced ED, according to Lee. However, more recent studies show a significant increase in ED among younger populations. A 2024 study from the Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that the overall ED prevalence rate, based on IIEF-5 scores, was 24.2%. Among men aged 18-24, 17.9% were affected, and 13.3% of men aged 25-34. ED rates climbed with age, with 52.2% of men aged 75+ and 48.0% of those aged 65-74 meeting diagnostic criteria.
Additionally, a 2021 study highlighted that some men aged 18-31 were misusing ED medication.
To avoid potential health risks, it’s crucial to discuss the dangers of honey packets with your partner and explore natural alternatives that can help boost stamina. For instance, certain exercises have been shown to improve sexual performance. Read more about them below.
