Her boyfriend, Van Hunt, said he’s ready to take that next step but the actress is holding the process up.
Hunt, 58, who is a Grammy-winning artist, exposed Berry to Today.com. He said, “I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold as you can see. It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her.”
The Bruised star appears to be having some PTSD from how her past marriages ended.
“Well, I’ve been married three times,” she said. “Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t.”
Berry’s first marriage was to David Justice, the former Atlanta Braves player. They divorced in 1997 after a four-year marriage. She went on to marry Grammy-nominated singer Eric Benet in 2001. But after multiple incidents of infidelity, on Benet’s behalf, the couple decided to part ways in 2005. Then, the Catwoman tied the knot with French actor Oliver Martinez and welcomed a son with him in 2013. Three years later, they divorced, and now Berry pays him child support.
Despite all of these experiences, Berry claims that she does intend to say “I Do” to Hunt.
“I think we will get married just because, out of the people I’ve been married to, this is the person I should have married,” she said. “And I feel like I should, we should get married, but it’s not because we feel like we have to. I think it’s something that we would like to do just because we want that expression.”
Berry and Hunt have been dating since 2020, after his brother introduced them. They began by talking on the phone during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the years go on, they’ve shared with the world how their love continues to blossom.
After learning from her past experiences, the 58-year-old seems confident that Hunt is the one for her.
“It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex. That has never happened to me, ever,” she toldMarie Claire last September. “It took me a minute to get it right. But the nature of the way this happened, I have a real belief that this is it. This is my person.”
